Covered the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center yesterday. It started out looking like a really dry event visually with a bunch of police officers being honored and standing on a dark stage. Towards the end, though, they recognized the family of Chicago police Officer Alejandro Valadez who was killed in the line of duty.
As the honor guard brought the colors forward to close the ceremony, Valadez’s fiance and fellow Chicago police Officer Christina Rodriguez gazed out the window and held their son Alejandro Valadez, Jr. who is just five weeks old.
