all eyes on rahm
I missed most of the fun, but got to stop by for closing arguments in the case of whether Rahm Emanuel is a citizen of Chicago eligible to run for mayor. The arguments, which lasted several days in December and has since gone through several appeals, all took place in this tiny basement room off Chicago’s pedway system next to City Hall.
The atmosphere was quite a scene as a couple dozen citizen objectors to Emanuel’s residency each had a chance to question him the first day. The presiding hearing officer concluded, “Democracy isn’t always pretty, but it’s always beautiful.”
