When the Metrodome collapsed under heavy snow, we looked ahead to the Bears game there the following week hoping the NFL would move it to one of their nice unused domes in Indianapolis or Atlanta. No such luck, as the Vikings and their fans dug all 20-some inches of snow out of the University of Minnesota’s outdoor stadium in time to host a frigid Monday night game.
With temperatures in the teens we got to see all kinds of little bits of history. The first outdoor game in Minneapolis since 1981, the Bears clinching the division title, and Devin Hester returning a punt for a touchdown to set the all-time NFL record. The elements didn’t turn out to be as bad as feared either, as long as I scraped the accumulating freezing rain off the camera every few minutes…
