the cardinal’s house
I had the special opportunity to spend the day with Cardinal Francis George in his private residence. The house, located facing Lincoln Park in the heart of the Gold Coast, has been home to Chicago’s archbishops since 1885 and has hosted both Pope John Paul II and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The church graciously allowed me to photograph several aspect’s of the Cardinal’s day, including his private prayer service in the tiny interior chapel, breakfast with several priests, and some meetings and office tasks. After serving as Archbishop of Chicago since 1997, Cardinal George will officially submit his resignation when he turns 75 in January 2012.
