moving day

bulls-media-day02 Derrick Rose emerges from a photo studio during the Chicago Bulls media day Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.

Every four years seems like good timing for a change. I’ve moved my blog over to briancassella.tumblr.com. Please come along!

long ball

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro (13) follows through on his solo home run off Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Wily Peralta (60) in the fourth inning Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Wrigley Field.

alive

Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam perform Friday, July 19, 2013 at Wrigley Field.

Our media-allotted three songs were up before the epic 2.5 hour rain delay, but thankfully I can hear some of the rest of the show from at home on the deck. I think they’re gonna play all night.

remembering shaneda

Regina Lawrence hugs family and friends while remembering her daughter Shaneda Lawrence on what would have been Shaneda’s 31st birthday Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Ryan Harris Park in Englewood. Shaneda Lawrence was killed at the park two months ago and her family has yet to receive answers about her death from the Chicago Police Department. The park is named for an 11-year-old girl, a cousin of Shaneda Lawrence, who was killed in 1998. Video of the memorial is HERE.

late day cubs

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Michael Bowden and catcher Welington Castillo talk during the ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Wrigley Field.

The addition of Friday Cubs games at 3 pm provides some fun new lighting, as I’m sure was Tom Ricketts’ ultimate goal.

les nomades

A few items off the dinner menu at the beautiful Les Nomades, in Streeterville: lobster salad, foie gras, chocolate tart and duck consomme.

kate and erik

I had the pleasure of attending my friends Kate and Erik’s wedding last weekend at the University Club of Chicago. I wasn’t the wedding photographer, but when I have a camera in my hands it’s hard to resist capturing a few of the beautiful moments.

take a big bite

There’s a few annual events in Chicago I’m on my third or fourth go-around shooting, and the challenge to see it differently gets harder. Taste of Chicago is actually one of the hardest assignments to come back from with a photo I like. If I see one more guy in a sleeveless t-shirt gnawing on a turkey leg…

Here’s a couple I liked yesterday, along with a bonus from a performance by the band fun. when lead singer Nate Ruess accidentally knocked off his own sunglasses.
